1. The French Camino spans the final section of the legendary Camino Francès, the most famous of all routes to Santiago de Compostela. Sarria, situated 112km from Santiago, is an ideal starting point for a journey that culminates with the tired traveller receiving their pilgrim’s certificate, or Compostela. The French Camino takes you through native forests, rolling pastures and rustic villages. Wonderful examples of medieval architecture and Galician cuisine are your final reward when you arrive in Santiago de Compostela.
2. Follow the beautiful Portuguese Camino from the border all the way to Santiago de Compostela. Start your journey in the town of Valença do Miño before crossing the river Miño and entering Spain. From there, walk along ancient Roman roads and paths through shaded forests, sweeping valleys and towns of great cultural significance.
3. The Coastal Portuguese Camino is a beautiful coastal alternative to the original Portuguese Camino. It follows the route taken by medieval pilgrims who sailed to the Galician coast before setting off on foot for Santiago de Compostela. During the first two stages, you are constantly greeted by breathtaking views of the Atlantic shoreline. On the third day, you join the original inland route and press on through stunning forested valleys, clustered farming villages and historic towns and cities.
4. The English Camino follows the traditional route taken by pilgrims from Britain, Ireland and northern Europe. During medieval times, these pilgrims travelled by sea to the northern Galician coast before making their way to Santiago de Compostela on foot. Your journey starts in the town of Ferrol, one of two traditional starting points of the English Camino, the other being La Coruña. Trace the medieval pilgrim’s journey through the hilly landscape of the coast and the charming wooded countryside of northern Galicia.
5. Considered by many to be the most beautiful of all Camino routes, the Via de la Plata follows an ancient strategic road connecting important cities during Roman times such as Seville, Merida and Astorga. Set off from the captivating old city of Orense and continue through an unspoilt countryside, admiring the region’s ancient and medieval heritage and sampling traditional cuisine and local wines as you go. This is the least known of all the Camino routes and therefore something of a hidden gem.
